Manor
House Independent Preparatory School, Devon, based just outside
Honiton in beautiful East Devon countryside yet just fifteen miles from Exeter, is a fully co-educational
preparatory day school for boys and girls from 2 to 11 years.
Our aim is to provide an outstanding, rounded and appropriately
challenging independent education in a vibrant and stimulating
environment.
Whilst any good school will rank children’s welfare
as important, at Manor House we consider that our pastoral
care is second to none and provides the foundation from
which all our great strengths emerge.
"There is excellent teamwork
between all staff involved in nursery education....The shared
ethos of learning through play leads to the careful planning
of interesting practical activities which reinforce or extend
children's learning, especially in mathematics and communication,
language and literacy... The quality of staff interactions
with children is outstanding in both age-groups...They build
children's self-esteem through the use of extensive praise
and encouragement, while gently enforcing their high expectations
and clear routines... Children make excellent progress in
their personal, social and emotional development."
Ofsted Report 2005 of the Foundation
Stage at Manor House Independent Preparatory School.
From this emotional stability stems our academic
excellence: In 2005 the inspectors found
"
The quality of the pupils’ attitudes to work and
their behaviour are consistently good, and pupils’
good progress is closely linked to their positive attitudes
to learning and to the skilled teaching they receive."
"The
school has many strengths, of which the following are the
most important:
The caring ethos of the school and the very good provision
for pupils’ personal development make for happy
and successful pupils.
Pupils
are very well looked after at each stage in the school
and benefit from the commitment of staff at all levels
to their care and welfare.
Leadership
is very good.
High
quality provision in the Foundation Stage gives children
a very good start to their formal education. "
